Here's a shot of the historic center of Venice made by the IKONOS NASA satellite on November 27, 2000. The higher resolution version is here, and seems to be a manageable size. Fabulous detail ... I can see the building where I used to live. I am on the hunt now for higher and higher resolution satellite imagery of Venice, and will create a central repository.
Hi,
I very much like the hires satellite image of The Historic Center of Venice on you site. Have you been able to track down any with even higher resolution?

Cool as satellite pictures are, for real detail, nothing seems to beat aerial shots. Check out http://fisher.lib.virginia.edu/collections/gis/venice/venice_aerials.html for an amazingly detailed above view. It's also available on CD-ROM. There's a book of aerial photography ... perhaps from the same fly-over. You can find the book here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0847810186/qid=1086619822/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl14/104-2984574-2007159?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
