Here's a view of the Canale della Giudecca in May, 2001 shot with a Seitz Roundshot 35/35s panoramic camera. It shows you what an amazing vantage point La Giudecca has on the historic center of Venice. I was standing at the edge of the water stairs in front of the church of Il Redentore (not seen). Starting at the right moving left, you can see the Church of the Zitelle, the island/church of San Giorgio Maggiore, the Riva degli Schiavoni, the Doge's Palace, the domes of the St. Mark's Basilica, the Campanile in Piazza San Marco, Santa Maria Della Salute, the Dogana (customs house) and salt warehouses, the entire Le Zattere waterfront.
The picture was taken as the number 82 vaporetto was leaving the pontile for the Le Zitelle stop. Little details ... notice the semi-truck on a barge unloading in front of the the unfortunately named grocery store Prix (pronounced as it is spelled) ... my pregnant wife Lori, trailed by her sister Holly and my daughter, Natalie in a stroller ... the backpacker is almost certainly from the Youth Hostel, a few doors down ... in the distance on the left, cruise ships moored by the Maritime Center.
You're a braver woman than I it was weeks before I could even begin to think about looking at the incisions from my lap. Even now I don't like to touch them. They're...squishy.
