When I lived in Venice, I took pains to try to broaden my culinary horizons ... to educate my palate (which has the equivalent of a gustatory G.E.D.).
This new open-mindedness led me directly to Algida's "Winner Taco" (pronouced Wee-ner Taco), pictured above on one of those painted metal advertising panels you see outside little food shops and cafes.
Quite possibly the perfect food, the Winner Taco combines a superlatively kitschy aesthetic with bold design innovations (the horizontally formatted "taco" cone), imaginative flavor striations, and a sensual mouth feel that lasted from tip to tip. I always felt like a real "weener" when I ate one.
(Lori wants me to add that her fave was something called Liuk, a lemon popsicle on a stick made out of licorice.)
where can u buy winner tacos now?

Hi!
I had a Winner Taco at least 8 years ago when i was in primary school.....and it was DELICIOUS!
I have never seen them for sale since......
so I am wondering are they still made...andif they are....where?
by the way, I live in Australia so that might change things a bit!
Um.....that picture of the icecreams......there are some many weird and wonderful types! i want to try them all!
And the lemon and licorice one sounds really fantastic!!
Thanks
:P Therese
I had one a Weener Taco (as they are pronounced) in Venice in July. Basically, low grade waffle cone, ice cream and chocolate-like emulsion in a taco shape. Love them.
